The United Daughters of the Confederacy is the oldest
Southern heritage and patriotic organization made up
of the lineal and collateral female descendants of the
soldiers, sailors, and statesmen of the Confederate
States of America (1861 - 1865). Originally organized
as a service organization to aid the Confederate
soldiers and their families, today the UDC (
hqudc.org)
is much more. The UDC is a historical, educational,
benevolent, patriotic and memorial organization.

Historical:  Our chapters work to preserve history,
especially that period of Southern history that relates
to the period from 1861-1865 (the War Between the
States).

Educational:  We provide scholarships for students
descended from Confederate soldiers.
Memorial:  We mark the graves of Confederate
soldiers who fought gallantly in the War Between the
States.

Benevolent:  We do special things for our Real
Daughters and Real Granddaughters.

Patriotic:  We present Crosses of Military Service to
veterans, send gifts to veterans in VA Hospitals and
local nursing homes, work in VA Hospitals, plan
projects for Days of Observance, respect  the
American and  Confederate flags, and love our
country.

The General organization is divided into State
Divisions and the Divisions are divided into districts
and chapters. In South Carolina we have 56 active
chapters with over 1400 Daughters working to protect
their Confederate heritage.
